Media Analysts Predict PROBLEMS for Disney at the Box Office in 2024

2024 is fast approaching, and it’s going to be a big year!

If you’re a movie fanatic, there are quite a few films slated for next year, from Marvel to Pixar to Dreamworks and many others. But with a few disappointments at the box office this past year…how will 2024 fare?

Toward the end of each year, CNBC interviews top media executives and shares their anonymous predictions for the upcoming year. This year, there were 13 executives interviewed, and they had some surprising things to say!

Many predictions were made about Bob Iger and the future of Disney, with some guessing as to the identity of his successor and others predicting that he’ll extend his CEO contract yet again. But one of the most intriguing predictions for 2024 is about the box office.

One media executive predicted that for the first time in 15 years (not counting the 2020 pandemic), no movies will hit the $1 billion mark at the box office in 2024. In 2023, Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie both reached the milestone, but there are fewer possible contenders in the upcoming year.

The executive notes that the film with the most potential to make $1 billion at the box office is Despicable Me 4. The movie is set to hit theaters on July 3rd, 2024. We’ll keep an eye on the box office numbers to see how it performs!
