Casting UPDATE For New 'Star Wars' Series 'The Acolyte'

There have been a LOT of new Disney entertainment announcements this week, thanks to San Diego Comic-Con.

First, we got our first teaser trailer for the upcoming National Treasure series on Disney+, then we learned about several new shows, as well as second seasons for returning shows. Now, we’ve got our first cast announcement for a new Star Wars series!

We first learned about the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte way back in 2020! The series, led by director Leslye Headland, will take place in the final days of the High Republic (placing it a century before Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace). We haven’t heard much about the series since, though.

Now, though, we know who will star in that show! According to a joint post from Stenberg and Star Wars, actress Amandla Stenberg has been cast as the show’s lead.

You might know Stenberg as Rue in The Hunger Games or as the star of The Hate U Give, the latter of which earned her the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture and earned her a nomination for the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Young Actor/Actress.

We don’t have any further casting details about The Acolyte, but we’ll let you know when we get more details.

For you Star Wars fans, don’t forget that the next series coming to Disney+ is Andor which is prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars series. That show will premiere on August 31st.
