NEWS: Central Florida’s COVID-19 Testing Positivity Rate Has Risen Significantly

For nearly two years, things have been pretty unpredictable with COVID-19.

We’ve seen spikes and dips in the number of cases, and constantly changing health and safety policies due to the pandemic. Now, numbers are climbing again in Florida, which is evident based on recent testing.

Recently, Florida broke its daily record of new COVID-19 cases, but now we’re getting more information on the positivity rate of COVID testing in the area. Yesterday in Orange County alone, the positivity rate was 45%.

Dr. Tim Hendrix of Advent Health tells us the positivity rate of Covid testing yesterday in Orange County was 45%. It's 39% across all of Central Florida. The positivity rate was around 5% two weeks ago.

In all of Central Florida, the numbers came in at 39%, which is a big jump from just two weeks ago, when it was 5%. The first cases of the Omicron variant were detected in Florida at the beginning of December.  A few days later, it was detected as the dominant strain in Central Florida wastewater.
