Since Disney World first reopened to guests last July, they have implemented a strict face mask policy that mandates the proper use of face coverings while guests are in the parks and resorts. Guests above the age of 2 have had to wear face masks at all times, with the exception of being physically distanced from others, stationary, and actively eating or drinking.

Since last summer, this policy has included the mandate that face masks must remain on while guests are taking photos. But it looks like this policy will change this week.
In a major shift in Disney World’s face mask policy, guests may temporarily remove their face masks when actively taking outdoor photos beginning Thursday, April 8th.

According to Disney, “you may temporarily remove your face covering while actively eating, drinking, or taking an outdoor photo, but you must remain stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing during this time.”

As of this writing, guests must continue to keep their face masks on for indoor photos, including any and all ride photos, including rides where the photo is taking outdoors.

Disney has made continuous updates to their face mask policies over the past several months, but this is a major shift in being the first time the resort has added a circumstance where guests may temporarily remove their face masks. We’ll continue to bring you the latest health and safety updates from Disney World!

Like others have stated, they only changed the policy because Photopass wasn’t making any money. You still have to wear a mask unless you have a fork sticking out of your mouth.
I’m here now and I did purchase memory maker. I’m glad I’ll have 2 days of photos without masks! And I do think this is major news! Thanks!
It’s about time!! About 10 months late!!
This is very logical, and I bet a lot of money was lost from Memory Maker.
Ummmm ok I don’t know if that would be considered MAJOR news. I guess it’s good news?
Fantastic. Leaving for Disney tomorrow. This is perfect timing for us. Does this include Disney Photopass pictures?
We arrive on April 17th. Only 11 days left! ?♥️
this minor adjustment has more to do with their selling or lack of photo-pass customers…
Here I come wdw! Mask or no mask! I comin!
