Disney Needs New Rules for Tower of Terror

“We invite you, if you dare, to step aboard because in tonight’s episode, you are the star.” Does anyone else get goosebumps when you hear this on Tower of Terror, or just me?

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is home to some of Walt Disney World’s most thrilling attractions, and few rides are as iconic or as intimidating as The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Standing tall at the end of Sunset Boulevard, this free-fall elevator ride combines eerie storytelling, immersive theming, and adrenaline-pumping drops to create an unforgettable experience. It’s a must-do for thrill seekers, but as popular as the ride is, there are a few things that could make the experience even better.

1. Keep the Noise Down

One of the most common complaints about riding Tower of Terror isn’t the drop, it’s the noise. While screaming is expected on a thrill ride, there’s a difference between natural reactions and riders who make it their mission to be obnoxiously loud the entire time. Constant yelling or nonstop chatter from adults and teens can ruin the experience for first-time riders who are already nervous. Guests want to feel the tension, the eerie silence, and the sudden shock of the drop, not drown it all out with unnecessary noise.

2. No More Popcorn Spills

Another simple but surprisingly common issue? Popcorn. Time and time again, someone brings a bucket onto the ride, only for it to end up spilled across the floor. Not only is it messy, but it also slows things down as Cast Members need to stop and clean it up for safety. To keep the line moving and prevent unnecessary delays, it might be time to enforce a stricter no-popcorn policy for this attraction.

3. Let the Pre-Show Speak for Itself

Then there’s the beloved pre-show video. While longtime fans know every word by heart, reciting it out loud in the library spoils the experience for newcomers. Part of the fun is hearing Rod Serling’s eerie narration set the stage before you step into the Twilight Zone. Guests don’t want another rider parroting the script over the speakers. While banning it outright might be a joke, the courtesy should still stand — let the video play out as intended.

4. Turn the Misters On

Let’s talk about the misters in the outdoor queue. When they’re running, the foggy mist adds an extra layer of spookiness to the already atmospheric garden area, making the wait feel immersive and cool in more ways than one. But when the misters are turned off, the queue feels less special and far less comfortable in the Florida heat. If Disney wants to keep the vibes at their best, the misters should always be on.

  1. Rudeness affects the atmosphere in all of the parks. That is really the main issue. My latest favorite, the guy in line on the Runaway Railroad ride getting in the face of the cast member with the ever original ” You know I pay your salary!”.

  2. They should change the seats to a harness over the shoulder lock in. The flimsy across the waist straps do nothing to secure you in your seats.

  3. Food and drinks shouldn’t be allowed. When did they start allowing food? Screaming is screaming. Too bad for first time riders.

  4. My family and I have returned to Disney year after year. It’s our yearly pilgrimage. Tower of Terror is my second favorite ride, behind Haunted Mansion (I remember this one from childhood). Out of the several hundred times that I have been on this ride, I have never seen popcorn on the ride. As for the screaming, really??? I’m probably one of the people you don’t like, because I love repeating the monologue, but I don’t fairly low, because I’m not trying to spoil it. However, I doubt anyone hears me over all the chatter going on. That, to me, is annoying. The misters are a great comment…they do need to be on.

  5. Cooled blowing air needs to be in ALL queues at Disney! As tight as they are it is stifling and dangerous!! Heat stroke is real and being closed in with zero movement of air is not cool! Bigger fans and more of them to cover more area is needed! Come on Disney- we pay enough to come so upgrade your line areas!

  6. Loved this ride last week, but was horrified on the number of adults who took kids on who were sensitive. They came off the ride crying & screaming, perhaps it will affect their whole Disney experience for the rest of their lives.

  7. I’ve ridden the Tower of Terror many times. I have never been bothered by teens I find that makes the ride a lot more fun. As for the popcorn I have never seen or been allowed to bring food on the ride. If that is a issue staff should be checking riders for food and popcorn. It’s takes less time to double check then having to close the ride down to clean up popcorn. Teenagers are having fun and that’s what Disney is about THE KIDS AND FUN. So keep an eye out on the food situation and let them have fun. These very same kids might work for Disney some day, instead of taking away their rider rights let’s set the example for the next generation and teach them responsibilities. I have been going to Disney as a child, teenager and adult nothing like this has ever affected me. You can not change the rules every time this happens let’s teach through example and they will have have fun while learning. Disney has changed so much from rides to food. It no longer is a family park the rides and attractions are geared more for teenagers now. Changeing people is a lot harder than teaching employees to do their jobs. Is this the lesson we want kids to learn? This is not respect it’s control. Let them have fun. bringing food on the rides is the park and employees responsibility.

  8. Even worse than parroting the narration, my first time riding the Tower of Terror there was a group of teens in the preshow chatting loudly with each other. I couldn’t hear the Rod Serling video properly and feel like it lessened my experience.
    Have consideration for others!

    1. Been on Tower dozens of times. Highly disagree on the misters. It’s HOT mist, the water in the skinny black tubes get heated in FL sun before it vaporizes. It makes it even more muggy and uncomfortable. This past July when I went I was glad they were off.
