Did we accidentally save the BEST Epic Universe snack for last? Just kidding, we’ll never be done eating our way around this park!

From the moment we were able to enter Epic Universe in its early preview days until its opening day celebrations, we’ve been hard at work gathering all the tips, tricks, strategies, and eating all the food we could get our hands on inside the new Universal park. If you thought we’d already seen, done, ridden, and tasted it all, we can safely bet you’ve not seen anything quite like this unique snack around Epic Universe!
Now that Epic Universe has officially opened its gates and portals to welcome visitors into the new park, you probably could have guessed we’d already seen and done it all! But, you’d actually be wrong.

You see, even with as often as we were in Epic Universe before its opening day and during its previews, there’s still so much to see, do, and eat inside this massive park. And, there’s one particular restaurant we’ve been saving for opening day!

Star Sui Bao can be found nestled within the spacious grounds that make up Celestial Park, right by Stardust Racers. It’s the very first world you enter as you step in through the Chronos, which marks the entrance to the rest of the portals.

While it might not be much to look at from the outside, this small but mighty snack spot serves up a selection of Asian food cart offerings featuring unique takes on the traditional steamed Asian bao bun and tteokbokki.

While there were a few interesting options to choose from, there was one shining star that stood out from the rest — and we had our sights locked in from the moment we spotted it on the menu. The Tteokbokki Skewer can be yours for $11.99, and it’s made of a grilled hot dog and rice cake wrapped in a cheese crust with yuzu aioli, Japanese BBQ sauce, and scallions.

We were blown away by the size and presentation of this one! Our skewer contained three bits of hot dog and two rice cakes, which tasted a bit like a potato and were on the chewier side. All of that is wrapped in a griddled cheese that’s sticky and melty on the outside. Couple that with some crazy toppings like the Japanese BBQ sauce and scallions, and you’ve got yourself a hefty snack. Admittedly, though, this snack was much greasier than we would have preferred for a walkable snack to enjoy, but that’s really our only gripe about this one.

Universal has really hit the nail on the head with this one — the meat and fats were in the right places and portioned correctly for a chewy but enjoyable and flavor-filled bite, the cheese was gooey and melted, and all the best kinds of toppings that you might not think go together but do. The cheese was the true stand-out star of this snack, but it works in tandem with the juicy hot dogs and chewy rice cakes against the BBQ sauce, yuzu mayo, and scallions.

The toppings were tangy enough to add to the flavor of the snack without distracting from the other flavors you could taste in each bite, and put it over the edge for us! It’s literally the perfect snack, and with its huge (yet snack-sized) stature, you might find yourself in search of a friend to split it with since it’s so savory. We think it’s plenty safe to say this snack left a lasting impression on us in all the best ways, and we could easily see ourselves picking one up as a heftier snack turned meal replacement to keep the day going or when we’re winding down the night and picking out a spot to watch the nightly fountain show just steps away.
