Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe theme park may be the talk of the town, but are people sleeping on one MAJOR announcement?

We’re still trying to process everything we’ve already seen and experienced at Epic Universe — but that doesn’t mean we aren’t looking ahead to the future of the park. We’ve ridden the amazing rides and dined at the new restaurants, but we can’t help but wonder what’s next. In fact, Universal recently made an incredibly important announcement that has seemingly flown under the radar.
You’d be forgiven if you’ve forgotten, but last year, it was reported that Universal City Development Partners Ltd. — a subsidiary of Universal Orlando Resort — was approved to prepare for the expansion of the original plan of 700 acres for Epic Universe to over 2,000 acres.
Universal also called for a change of use for those plans for whatever they intend to use the extra land for. The property is part of a county-sanctioned project called Shingle Creek Transit & Utility Community Development District. For an example of how the plans have changed, here is the initial plan for the 700-acre Epic Universe.
We’re looking at an extra 1,300 or so acres, and it’s been reported that several “expansion pads” are already in place, ready for the park to get even larger.

The space could be used for new hotels and/or more attractions, restaurants, and shops possibly themed to IP not already at the park. The specifics remain to be seen but we do know that Universal is already thinking about expanding.

Indications point to Epic Universe being a huge success, so it’s no wonder Universal is ready to double down and invest in its new baby. The fact that expansion was already in the works ONE YEAR before the park even opened signifies just how much confidence universal has in Epic Universe.
And we get it — after seeing the park in person, we left impressed and excited for the future of Universal’s theme park experiences.

Epic Universe will open to the general public on May 22nd, 2025, but preview days have been ongoing to rave reviews, generally speaking.
You can check in on tons of coverage from our visits to the park already, as well as future visits — as you’ll find us there taking in this incredible new experience quite frequently once it’s fully open! In the meantime, stay tuned right here at AllEars for all the latest Epic Universe updates!
