Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz — who are the showrunners for “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” on the streaming service — are in talks to write, showrun, and produce the series, TheWrap has reported.

Hasbro is set to produce the series, which will “reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers.

Power Rangers Time Force

The television show originally aired in the 1990s under the name, “The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” and was inspired by a Japanese children’s show called “Super Sentai.” The show even used footage from “Super Sentai” when it first aired in the U.S., and featured five teenagers who gain abilities to “morph” into the Power Rangers.

In 1995, a film version of the series — starring most of the original cast — was released, followed by another film in 1997, in which only a few original cast members appeared. Throughout the past 25 years, the series has gone through several different iterations.

Lionsgate and Saban Film tried to reboot the franchise in 2017 as a gritty, young adult adaptation, but that film only grossed $142 million on its $100 million budget.

Power Rangers Wild Force “Forever Red”

In 2018, Hasbro acquired Power Rangers as part of the company’s “ongoing strategy to elevate storytelling and produce series based on Hasbro’s most iconic brands.” In addition to Power Rangers, Hasbro is also working on reimagining “Clue,” “Dungeons & Dragons,” “Magic: The Gathering,” and more.

As of now, this project seems to be in its early stages, which means more exciting updates are no doubt on the way.
