Ranking EVERYTHING in How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk at Epic Universe

There’s a place where Vikings live in a humble village, and dragons fly overhead. There’s a place where you can actually meet the great Night Fury dragon (and even snap a photo!). There’s a place where YOU can become a Viking. It’s called the Isle of Berk, and this How to Train Your Dragon-inspired land is a HUGE part of the new Epic Universe theme park in Orlando.

Epic Universe opens on May 22nd, 2025, but ahead of the grand opening, we got a special preview of the ENTIRE theme park! One of the most highly-anticipated new lands in Epic Universe is How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and we’re ranking everything there is to do in this new land.

One of the first things you’ll realize when you enter this land is the SIZE. It’s hard to capture the scale with words — you really have to see it in person to understand just how big the Isle of Berk is within Epic Universe. Universal revealed that Isle of Berk encompasses 15.5 acres (!!!) with a total of 162,500 square feet of rockwork. So, yes, it’s HUGE.

There’s a lot to do in this land, and you might be wondering what’s worth your time. After all, Epic Universe is made up of five unique lands, and there’s only so much time in a day to see and do it all. That’s why we’re here to help! We’re ranking everything in the Isle of Berk from MUST DO to MEH, so you know what to hit first (and what’s safe to skip on your first visit).

1. Hiccup’s Wing Gliders

If you’ve ever been to Disney World, picture The Barnstormer coaster in Magic Kingdom. Got that image in your head? Now, imagine a smoother, longer version of that attraction with DRAGONS.

©Universal

This was one of our FAVORITE things in Epic Universe. The ride was thoughtfully designed from start to finish, with a nice, shady queue, a smooth track, and fun How to Train Your Dragon details all throughout the ride.

©Universal

The story goes that Hiccup has a new contraption: a winged flying machine! His new creation launches us into the air, which makes you feel like you’re speeding through the sky with dragons. This one is worth the wait — we LOVED it!

2. Meet Toothless and Hiccup

Yep. That is THE Toothless — live and in the flesh! You can meet him and Hiccup (along with a variety of other Vikings from the movies) in an exclusive new meet-and-greet experience!

©Universal

Toothless is ADORABLE — his facial expressions are just as animated as the film itself, and it truly feels like you’ve stepped into the Isle of Berk as an honorary Viking.

©Universal

Our only warning is to be prepared for a SUPER long line to meet Toothless and Hiccup. In fact, you might find a wait time for this experience that rivals the actual RIDES in the Isle of Berk. But hey — when else can you meet a REAL DRAGON?!

3. The Untrainable Dragon

This beloved show made its way to Orlando all the way from Universal Beijing Resort! The Untrainable Dragon is a show for people of all ages — it’s more of a musical than a stage play, so expect amazing music and talented live performers.

©Universal

The theater is pretty big — we’d say it’s comparable to the Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! space in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The premise of the story is about how Hiccup and Toothless (and their friends) must work together to solve the mystery of The Untrainable Dragon. It’s an adorable show with memorable special effects and fun music. While you might not need to visit it every time you go to Epic Universe, it’s definitely worth seeing at least once.

4. Fyre Drill

Universal has a new take on water rides! This one is an interactive boat battle at sea starring Ruffnut and Tuffnut, who compete in dueling ships to out-soak other Vikings.

Be prepared to get WET — it’s almost impossible not to get sprayed with water. We had a lot of fun at this attraction — it’s a simple concept, but sometimes, simple works! If you’re looking for a fun way to cool off this summer, head straight to this ride.

5. Dragon Racer’s Rally

There are no BAD rides in Isle of Berk, but this one definitely ranks lower on our list. The Dragon Racer’s Rally attraction lets you practice aerobatic maneuvers in the air, but it takes a LOT of effort — especially on a windy day!

©Universal

The ride is on the shorter side, and the wings you control are HEAVY, so it takes some real “oomph” to spin yourself into a full barrel roll. In our experience, if you want to spin, you’ll probably be able to squeeze one to two barrel rolls in before the ride is over. This is like a real Viking workout, so be prepared!

6. Viking Training Camp

Last on our list is the Viking Training Camp. This is essentially just a small playground for little ones, so there’s not much to say about this area of the land.

It’s cute — don’t get us wrong — but we certainly wouldn’t stick it at the top of our list of things to do.

Phew! We made it! As you can see, there’s a LOT to see and do in this land. The more we visit, the more we’ll get to explore, so stay tuned as we share more tips and tricks for navigating Epic Universe. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest theme park news, so stick around for more.
