The U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for the Turks and Caicos Islands due to crime. Now, this doesn’t mean you’re banned from traveling to this location, but officials suggest exercising increased caution if you visit the islands.

There are four Travel Advisory levels, ranging from “Exercise normal precautions” to “Do not travel.”

This travel advisory was updated on March 4th, 2025. The U.S. Department of State explained that most crime occurs in Providenciales but noted police may have limited resources.

The recommendations for traveling under this Level 2 risk are:

  • Ensure you do not have any weapons in your bag before leaving the United States and traveling to the Turks and Caicos Islands
  • Do not walk alone at night
  • Don’t answer the door at your residence/hotel unless you know who it is
  • Do not physically resist a robbery attempt
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) program to receive alerts AND make it easier to find you in an emergency
  • Have a contingency plan in case of an emergency
  • It’s highly recommended that you purchase travel insurance

At this time, the Disney Cruise Line does not offer any itineraries to Grand Turk or any part of the Turks and Caicos Islands, though they have in the past, and many other cruise lines do travel to this location.

Sometimes, when you’re looking into extra opportunities to enjoy while you’re docked at a port of call, it’s hard to discern safe options ahead of time. If you’re traveling with a cruise line, it’s best to book additional adventures through your cruise line. We also recommend using a travel agent, like our friends at Mouse Fan Travel! They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!
