The Wall Street Journal reported that the latest cuts are planned to affect about 200 employees across Disney’s ABC News network and Disney Entertainment networks.

Disney recently laid off parts of its workforce in September and October 2024. In an effort to continue cutting costs, Disney is planning to lay off about 6% of the staff at ABC News and other Disney Entertainment networks.

As more consumers are cutting the cord on cable and switching to streaming and other digital services, Disney is following suit with other entertainment industry competitors and cutting down its workforce to focus on “sports and entertainment content to compete in the streaming marketplace.”

The cuts are set to affect ABC News shows like “20/20” and “Nightline” as they consolidate into one unit. A similar cut will happen at “Good Morning America”, as the third hour of the show is produced by another production team, but after the cuts, it will be consolidated under one person. ABC will also eliminate its “political and data-driven news site 538, which had about 15 employees.”
