It’s official! A new hotel is soon being built near Universal Studios Hollywood. According to KTLA, expansion plans have been approved for a new 18-story tower at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City Hotel.

The Los Angeles City Council approved the plans to expand the current 24-story building located on E. Universal Hollywood Drive.

In addition to approving the overall plans, L.A. City Council members adopted vesting zone change and height requirements, approved conditional use permits for the sale of alcohol and performing live entertainment on-site, and approved the final environmental impact review for the project.

This new hotel addition will have 395 guest rooms, three restaurants, a spa, an indoor/outdoor bar, two pools, and a single-level lobby lounge and bar that connects to the main hotel. Not only that, but there will be a meeting room and a three-level parking garage.

Sun Hill Properties, Inc., who operates the Hilton Los Angeles/City Center hotel, announced the expansion plans in 2017 with president and CEO of the company, Mark Davis, sharing:

“After over 30 years of serving Los Angeles and the greater San Fernando Valley, we owe these additional rooms to the region as we prepare to host the 2028 Olympic Games and tourism numbers continue to rise.”

And, it’s possible that a new 500-room hotel is still in the works at Universal Studios Hollywood. In 2006, Universal released its Universal Evolution Plan, which included plans for two new hotels, and it has been confirmed that these plans are still in place.

Site plans show that the new 500-room hotel would be located across from the park’s entrance, taking over a current parking lot and the former Saddle Ranch Chop House location. The front gate hotel would offer immersive accommodations, potentially similar to what will be offered at Universal’s Helios Grand Hotel at Epic Universe. Of course, we haven’t heard any real updates on these plans in a while.
