7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Paying $95 for Afternoon Tea in Disney World

Afternoon Tea at The Cake Bake Shop in Disney World sounds like a dream, right?

Just thinking about those tiny sandwiches, fancy teas, and the chance to feel like royalty for an hour or two – it sounds like the ultimate splurge-worthy treat. But before you book, there are a few things you should know. And trust me, I learned these the hard way.

Here are the seven things I wish I knew before shelling out $95 for this posh experience:

Reservations Are a Must

This isn’t your casual “walk-up and see what happens” type of meal. Reservations for Afternoon Tea at The Cake Bake Shop are limited, and they fill up fast.

Welcome Card

If you’re hoping to sip tea and snack on delicate pastries, you’ll need to book in advance. And by “in advance,” I mean as soon as possible. Don’t risk missing out because you waited too long to snag a spot.

There Are No Refunds

We all know that life happens and that plans change, but unfortunately, this dining experience doesn’t come with that kind of a safety net. Once you book, the $95 (plus gratuity) is non-refundable.

Our table settings

So unless you’re 100% certain you can make it, you’ll want to think twice before committing. I get it. Things can pop up out of nowhere, but at this price point, the last thing you want is to pay for a tea party you never attend.

It’s $95 for Adults and $65 for Kids

Speaking of paying, let’s review the price tag. This isn’t just a casual afternoon activity; it’s an investment. At $95 per adult and $65 per child (ages 3-9), a family outing can quickly become a splurge of epic proportions.

Our tea tower

While the experience is delightful and memorable, it’s important that you go in knowing exactly what you’re paying for.

If You Have Dietary Restrictions, Plan Ahead

Do you have food allergies or dietary restrictions? Well, no problem. They can handle that, but you will need to plan ahead. The Cake Bake Shop can accommodate gluten-free and allergy-friendly meals, but they request at least 48 hours’ notice to properly prepare.

Alternative menus

Make absolutely sure to communicate your needs when booking this experience. They’re pretty accommodating, but this isn’t the kind of place where you can spring a special request at the last minute.

You Can Switch Up Your Tea Choices

Here’s a little perk I wish I knew before going: you’re not stuck with just one tea! You can try different teas throughout the meal, which is perfect if you’re indecisive or just love variety.

Tea time!

Whether you’re a black tea devotee, a green tea enthusiast, or someone who’s here for the herbal blends, there’s no need to limit yourself. Embrace the tea flight experience and find your new favorite brew.

Payment Is Due Upfront

Let’s circle back to the bill one more time. So, when you book the Afternoon Tea, you’re not just reserving a table. You’re literally paying for the entire experience upfront, and gratuity included.

Sandwiches

This isn’t unusual for Disney, but it’s still worth noting. Make sure you budget accordingly because once you hit that “reserve” button, your wallet will feel it immediately.

There’s a Kid-Friendly Menu

If you’re bringing little ones, rest assured they’ll have options tailored just for them. The children’s menu mirrors much of the adult experience but with slight variations designed for younger palates.

Children’s Menu

It’s a thoughtful touch that keeps the fancy tea party vibe alive while making it accessible for kids. Plus, who doesn’t love seeing their kid enjoy tiny sandwiches and desserts?

  1. Being a Brit this is a big no as I’ve had more impressive looking afternoon teas in my local department store for a quarter of the price and the views from this local place are spectacular. I simply cannot justify the cost.
