Wicked has already taken the world by storm and it hasn’t even officially premiered yet!

From press tours and interviews to sneak peeks of the movie, it has gained quite the following ahead of its official theatrical release on November 22nd, 2024. However, as people begin to preview the movie musical, one movie theater giant is laying down a new rule…
“Wicked” first debuted on Broadway in 2003 and became an instant hit. So it’s no surprise that it became a movie musical, like many other Broadway shows in the past. However, “Wicked” has some of the most well-known songs from the Broadway canon, so it’s natural for moviegoers to want to sing along right?
Well, at AMC Theaters, you’ll have to fight that urge. According to the Indy Star, an ad playing ahead of the movie explicitly states that there is NO singing allowed. It says “At AMC Theatres, silence is golden. No talking. No texting. No singing. No wailing. No flirting. And absolutely no name-calling. Enjoy the magic of movies.”

If this sounds like a big bummer to you, don’t worry! Starting on December 25th, Variety reports that about 1,000 theaters will offer a sing-along showing of the film. That will be your time to shine if you’re hoping to sing your favorite Wicked songs.

Remember this is only the first part of Wicked. Part two of the movie is set to be released on November 21st, 2025. That means it’ll be about a year until you can watch fan-favorite songs like “For Good”…but it’ll be worth the wait!

You can catch Wicked at your local movie theater or even at the AMC Theaters in Disney Springs. Just don’t forget to abide by the new rule — NO SINGING. Want the inside scoop on the movie? Check out the new exhibit at Universal Orlando!

There are going to be a lot of people upset when they find out Wicked is a two-part movie! There has been ZERO mention that only Act 1 is being shown with this film and Act 2 will be shown next year.
Not exactly “zero mention.” I’ve known about it being in two parts since the movie was still in production.
