Disney+ is a main priority for the Walt Disney Company.
Since its introduction, Disney has worked to ensure that the streaming service is profitable for the company. This has meant increasing the number of subscribers and including ads in the basic memberships. Like many other streaming services, Disney also increases the prices of subscriptions from time to time. Now, subscribers need to be aware of a price hike happening soon!
Disney will be increasing its subscription prices starting October 17th, 2024. While most subscriptions will see a hike, Disney+/Hulu bundles and the recently announced Disney+/Hulu/Max bundle will be left unchanged.
The following chart shows the price changes from what they currently are to what the new prices will be as of October 17th. In general, there will be $1 to $2 increases.
More prices are as follows:
Some services may also be purchased annually not just monthly. Disney shared this chart showing the new prices.
In the same announcement about the new pricing, Disney also shared that new continuous playlists will be introduced to Disney+ starting on September 4th. ABC News Live and a playlist focused on preschool content will be available to all subscribers. Later this fall four more playlists will follow.
Alisa Bowen, President of Disney+, shared, “Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+. Whether it’s news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows, or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest.”
The playlists coming this fall include:
- Seasonal Content — a collection of seasonal-themed content from across the Disney+ catalog
- Epic Stories — a compilation of action-packed stories from marquee brands and franchises, including Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars
- Throwbacks — a destination for nostalgic pop culture content
- Real Life — a lineup of traditional documentaries, biopics, and true stories
These additions will be great especially as the pricing increases for the services. Disney will soon have their Quarter 3 earnings call later this week on August 7th. We’ll be waiting to hear about the profits the streaming service has seen over the last quarter and any other news that CEO Bob Iger might share.
