BEWARE This Orlando Airport PROBLEM If You’re Heading to Disney World Soon

Heads up if you’re flying into Orlando this week!

Orlando International Airport

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is one of the busiest airports in the world thanks to being the primary access point for millions to access Orlando’s tourist attractions like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort. While MCO is generally a pleasant travel experience, but if something throws a wrench into the occasion, it can cause chaos.

Disney Vacation Planner

On July 24th, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (@lynxbusorlando) announced that two of their bays would be under construction at the end of July.

Their statement read, “Service Alert: Due to construction @MCO, bus bays A38-A41 will be closed on Monday, July 29, until noon on Wednesday, July 31. During this time, our buses will use bays A35-A37. Should these bays be occupied, buses will loop back to ensure safe and efficient passenger pickup.”

If you’re arriving or departing from MCO between July 29th and July 31st and are planning to use Lynx as transportation bus routes, keep this construction in mind when planning as it may affect your timing considerably.

This construction will only add to the already chaotic transportation situation around MCO regarding the airport’s rideshare lots. According to an Uber driver named Ivan, “They have to wait a long time because there’s no way to get out of here. That’s why we chose to park over here [in the South TNC lot] even though we don’t have signal because it’s easier to get out of here. Over there [the North TNC lot] it’s jammed.”

Angela Starke, the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs & Community Relations at MCO, responded with “GOAA staff members have been working with cell providers, in conjunction with the Federal Aviation Administration, to improve coverage in the cell phone parking lots. Simultaneously, in January, our IT team successfully deployed a wi-fi infrastructure by strategically placing four wi-fi access points, effectively covering the TNC lot area in the South. These access points are interconnected, ensuring seamless delivery of wi-fi signals. This improvement should help rideshare drivers with mobile apps and enable wi-fi calling. Currently, and based on our coordination with FAA, we have agreements with two of the three major cell phone providers to improve coverage in the cell phone parking lots. This would be a combination of small cell poles and antennae in the South and North cell lots. The benefit is that this cell service improvement should extend into the South TNC lot; however, it is not guaranteed. Once the project is complete, we will verify.”

Between the Uber issues and now this construction, we would advise penciling in a lot of extra time — and patience — when coming and going from MCO this summer. Stay tuned to AllEars for further Orlando International Airport updates.
