A Controversial Disney Souvenir Trend Quietly Died (And We’ve Gotta Talk About It)

Disney isn’t exactly the epicenter of subtlety — so when something changes quietly it really can go unnoticed.

Disney may try to be subtle, like filing for park permits or making slight theme park changes, but, usually, we’re quick to catch them. However, one Disney World trend seemingly disappeared right under our noses!

Whatever happened to the monthly merchandise release hype? Not following? Let us explain.

Long lines at World of Disney in Disney Springs back in 2021

In the past, we used to get HUGE monthly releases where people would line up to buy the new Mickey or Minnie collections featuring ear headbands, Loungefly products, and more.

We visit Disney World EVERY DAY, and we just aren’t seeing the masses get excited about these drops anymore.

With the Stitch Attacks Snacks Collection and Disney Eats Collection in production and being released each month, it’s not like Disney has stopped doling out good merch. We just aren’t seeing the “big drops” in the parks that we’re accustomed to.

So what happened? It’s impossible to say, but we can speculate.

It’s easy to say consumer interest isn’t there, but that can’t simply be the case. Instead, it might just be that shopping online at the Disney Store is easier than fighting crowds at the Disney Parks to get a chance at buying a new Disney product.

It’s hard to pinpoint why the park-drop trend, at least from our perspective, tailed off out of nowhere. If you have any observations or think the trend is still alive, be sure to let us know!

We’ll continue to investigate this phenomenon and monitor to see if the merch crowds, pushing and shoving, and long lines ever return. In the meantime, be sure to follow us here at AllEars for the latest Disney Parks news, tips, reviews, and more!

  1. Disney cracked down on park resellers and ended the FOMO loop they caused buying out product lines to flip at 60% mark ups.

  2. We have been going to Disney World since 1973. Took our kids, now our grandkids. We use to take one suitcase just for the Disney souveniers to bring back home! I will tell you why we can’t do that anymore, the ridiculous prices they place on everything! We are lucky to afford the cheapest Disney hotel now, where our first couple of visits we stayed at the Contemporary resort back in the 70’s and 80’s. Disney gouges people now days at every corner, and the average person can barely afford the trip, let alone have money left to buy the overpriced souveniers!
