A new chapter is coming soon in the fun trading card game, Lorcana! We checked out the new cards and had to show you what is in store for you.

Since Lorcana is a relatively new game, we wanted to share a little info on the game before diving into the new set. There is a whole lore that winds its way into how you play, so let’s check it out!

Lorcana Background

Lorcana is a strategy card game in which the players are called “Illumineers.” The Illumineers wield magical ink to use “glimmers” which are Disney characters, items, actions, songs, and new to Into the Inkwells, locations. The goal of the game is to race your opponent across the realm of Lorcana to gain more “lore” aka points. The lore was scattered throughout the realm during Rise of the Floodborn (or so the story goes) when unleashed ink flooded.

So basically, you play a strategy game against an opponent or group of opponents using the abilities on the cards and race to gather 20 lore (points) before the others. Characters, items, actions, songs, and locations all bring with them special abilities.

For example, characters you can quest to gain lore or challenge opponents to slow them down from getting their lore. Items can give you special advantages such as picking up a card from the deck if one of your characters is banished during a challenge with an opponent.

Back in March, Disney released Into the Inklands as the latest chapter of this story game. But now, Disney has announced the release of Ursula’s Return! The new set will be released to hobby stores on May 17th and everywhere else (including online) on May 31st.

Ursula’s Return

The new set has you facing off against the one and only sea witch, Ursula! So the story continues in this fun trading card game.  Ravensburger and Disney share that “A powerful Ursula glimmer, unleashed from the Great Illuminary, is at last ready to put plans into motion. How far will the sea witch go to gain power over all Lorcana?”

The new set will come with a variety of options to purchase. Two new starter sets will be available, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on them! An Encanto set featuring Mirabel and Bruno and a set featuring Anna and Hercules bring more fun to your table and game night.

New starter sets!

Each of these new sets comes with two new foil cards. Anna and Hercules foil cards come in the Steel and Sapphire pack.

In Into the Inklands, we were introduced to location cards. Locations can give you and other cards special abilities when you interact with them. They can amplify a character’s ability or even bring together groups of characters. The new sets have continued the use of location cards. In the Sapphire and Steel starter set you can transport your players to Thebes!

Casa Madrigal is where your characters can go in the Amber and Amethyst set!

We continue to find that locations are a neat idea in theory, but not incredibly useful in practice. The remaining cards are full of other epic Disney characters all ready to battle their way to a win. You’ll find Mickey, Ariel, more of the Madrigals, 101 Dalmations, and more at your fingertips.

How to Play in 10 Easy Steps
