Planning a Disney World trip can be complicated enough without having to worry about a wrench in your travel plans.

We’ve seen flight delays, cancelations, and other mishaps. But, more and more airlines are making changes to their routes that might make getting to Orlando International Airport just a bit more complicated.
It’s a rough time to be a traveler these days. Gas prices are surging, doors are flying off planes, and more and more airlines are canceling their direct routes to Orlando International Airport (MCO). We’ve seen nonstop routes canceled from certain airports — and one airline is ending operations at multiple airports entirely.

So, while you’ll likely still be able to find a flight to MCO from wherever you’re coming from — it could be much more complicated. You may find that there isn’t a direct flight, meaning you’ll have to stop and switch planes at least once before heading to your final destination.

Or, it could mean you have to find a different airline from the one you’re used to altogether. It’s also possible you have to switch airports entirely — if at all possible — to catch a flight to Orlando.

Southwest Airlines recently announced it would be ceasing operations at four different airports, citing poor financial performance. You’ll no longer be able to catch Southwest flights to Orlando from:
- Bellingham International Airport
- Cozumel International Airport
- Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport
- Syracuse Hancock International Airport
These particular airports were chosen because they are “underperforming markets.” Southwest noted in a statement that they made this difficult decision to “improve our financial performance.”

Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and JetBlue have also ended select routes to Orlando — and Lynx Air has stopped flying to MCO entirely.

Spirit decided to stop operating a non-stop flight from Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina to Orlando, Frontier ended a route from Harrisburg, and JetBlue ended flights from Salt Lake City.

Avelo Airlines is another budget carrier that ended one route — from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Folks who typically travel any of these routes will need to figure out another way to get to MCO — but there’s still good news! We’re always on the lookout for the latest NEW routes, flights, and airlines at the Orlando Airport and we’ll let you know of any we spot.
