Well, This Wasn’t What We Were Expecting From This Disney Partnership

We were recently teased with something in the works between Roku and Disney World.

Magic Kingdom at Disney World

We wondered what these two entertainment companies could possibly be in cahoots about. What was coming that had us all in a frenzy? Roku had shared an image with a sign stating, “Pardon our Pixie Dust” which, most Disney park fans will know, is a typical sign posted where they are doing construction. So we had high hopes about this teaser. But we didn’t have to wait long to find out! (Spoiler alert: It wasn’t a major park expansion.)

There was an expansion, of sorts, but not in the way we’re all waiting for. Disney World “expanded” into Roku City! For a limited time, the Roku City screensaver features a skyline of the Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom.

Now, you can feel transported to Disney World right at your home (if you own a Roku device) with the new Roku City. It’s a beautiful purple skyline including Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse, and Tinker Bell in front of Cinderella Castle. Many people have said they would love to live in Roku City, but now, we finally feel like we’re truly home when we turn on our TV.

According to The New York Times, Roku City was commissioned to a former freelance graphic artist, Kyle Jones. Interestingly, Mr. Jones now works at Pixar! Jones was asked to create a screen saver that could be used for advertising for new movies and TV shows. He decided to create a cityscape that was always in the golden hour, with billboards and Hollywood references.

Mr. Jones commented on his artwork, stating, “I was talking with another member of the team who shared that it might even be the most viewed piece of art ever since it is just on loop constantly in millions of households. I can’t imagine that is true, but it’s still pretty wild to think about.”

This new Roku City screensaver can be seen on any Roku device for a limited time. Keep your Roku on to enjoy Disney World, now in your home.
