The idea of being able to become a part of the world of Zootopia is still mind-boggling for us. This project was announced in early 2019, and since then we have been waiting with bated breath to see how Imagineers will bring this world to life. They’ve given us some insight on what is to come, but we just got a peek behind the curtain and we are more excited than we were before.

A big draw to the Zootopia-themed land is the immersion– who doesn’t want to be surrounded by animals doing everyday tasks and living their lives? Well, with this new show, we get to experience exactly that. Shanghai Disney Resort took to Instagram to show us some behind-the-scenes of this show.

This isn’t your normal show at a Disney theme park– it doesn’t take place on a stage or on a screen. This show is built into the Zootopia-themed land itself and adds another layer of immersion. Suddenly, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the world of Zootopia.

This show isn’t meant to be something theatrical. It is meant to come across as the characters living their daily lives in the metropolis. You’ll see some of your favorite Zootopia residents leaning out the windows of their apartments to chat and taking time to interact with one another– just like something you’d see in a real neighborhood!

Imagineering has done things similar to this, but it is truly a different experience. They have never done anything to this extent before, and that is what makes it special. It isn’t just a small production that runs throughout parts of the day — it is running all day long.

You’ll see a wide array of different animals from the smallest hamster to an elephant. Not only that, but the show will be changed slightly each time you see it and customized for the seasons, special events, holidays, and more.

This show is nothing like what we’ve seen before, and we can’t wait to see what Imagineering has up its sleeves next. The Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disneyland will open on December 20th and we can’t wait to see what the final product looks like.
