The Fatal Flaw of Disney World’s Park Pass System

Alright friends, let’s talk about Disney’s Park Pass Reservation System.

Currently, you can’t enter a park without a park pass reservation

It first began as a way for Disney to control park capacity following the reopening of the parks, but it’s stuck around (at least for now!). Most parkgoers are not big fans of the system, but what are its fatal flaws?

We took to Twitter to ask our readers (that’s you!) what the most fatal flaw of the Park Pass Reservation System is, and you delivered for sure.

That It Exists

That’s it. That’s the post.

Animal Kingdom entrance

Just kidding, but it was the number one answer from our readers. The fact that the system exists at all, especially after many feel the pandemic’s dangers have mostly passed, really rubs Disney fans the wrong way. Many of our readers would like to see the system gone for good.

Animal Kingdom

But, not all hope is lost! Disney recently dropped a ton of huge news, and one of the biggest updates is that park passes will be going away for most guests in 2024. Guests who purchase date-based Disney World park tickets will no longer need to make park pass reservations beginning on January 9th, 2024!

It’s Supposed to Manage Crowds, But It Doesn’t Feel That Way

The whole purpose of the system is to limit park capacity, and as of the last update we heard, the parks still are not operating at full capacity. However, many guests who have gone frequently will tell you it feels just as, if not MORE crowded than it was before the pandemic closures.

Magic Kingdom Crowds

So why is the park pass system still in place if it’s not actually limiting capacity? That’s a good question that no one but the Disney company has the answer to. But, we have seen demand for Disney World dip a bit, at least from what Disney shared in a recent earnings call. CFO Christine McCarthy said that the parks could be less crowded over the summer.

Not Allowing for Spontaneity

The Park Pass Reservation System also doesn’t allow for much spontaneity on your Disney vacation.

Guests waiting to tap into Hollywood Studios

You’ll have to plan in advance what parks you want to be in on what day, and if you miss your chance, that park could be sold out for good for that day. This is especially true if you’re traveling during a super busy time like a holiday or spring break. This adds a whole new level of stress to an already stressful vacation.

No Park Hopping Until After 2PM

Lots of guests also shared they dislike that this new system means they can’t park hop until after 2PM.

Getting off the Skyliner to hop to EPCOT

Many guests feel stuck in a Disney park if they can’t hop until 2, especially if they’re in a park with fewer rides like Animal Kingdom.

50th Anniversary Statues

But luckily, we’ve got GOOD news if you feel this way about the Park Pass Reservation System — Disney recently announced that park passes are going AWAY for most Disney World guests starting in 2024!

Cast members and Annual Passholders will still have to make reservations since they won’t have date-based tickets, but they’ll be getting something called “Good-To-Go” days to hopefully combat this. As always, stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Disney news!
