May is here and there’s a lot happening at Disney World.

This month is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and there are a lot of ways to join in the celebration. There are new character meet-and-greets and limited-time snacks, just to name a few. But there are 2 other things happening that you may have NO idea about — let’s check them out!
There are some NEW Magic Shots (and props!) available to make your next photo at Disney World THAT much more special!
At the Disney PhotoPass Studio located in Disney Springs, you can take a picture in front of a virtual background inspired by Mei Lee from Turning Red. Additionally, there’s a background available that is inspired by Moana, plus there’s a NEW prop available too.

At Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can snap a photo with Hiro and Baymax from Big Hero 6 in a special Magic Shot. It’s available throughout the month of May.
And just like that — you have 2 things you may have not known you could experience in Disney World (a new photo op prop themed to Moana and a limited-time Magic Shot themed to Big Hero 6!)

Keep in mind that while taking your photo is free, PhotoPass downloads are NOT free. You’ll either need to have an Annual Pass and pay for the added PhotoPass benefit or you can look into the Memory Maker service (or buy individual photos). (Select attraction photos are free with Genie+ purchases, but that’s different!)

Next up, let’s talk about the characters you can meet to help celebrate this month’s festivities! At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you can meet Moana at Discovery Island Character Landing, and you can say “hello” to Russell from Up as he joins the Adventure Flotilla.
You can also catch Raya in the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade as it makes its way through Magic Kingdom, or snap a photo with Mulan at the China pavilion in EPCOT.

And, starting May 14th, visit Pixar Place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for The Edna Mode Experience, where you can meet the celebrated designer herself!

If you haven’t visited the Art Walk: A Canvas of Expression at Disney Springs, don’t miss your chance to see the latest works of two more artists who have contributed their art to the walls: Thao Huynh French, a Vietnamese-American artist who uses texture and bright colors to create compelling graffiti art, and Andrew Hem, a Cambodian-American artist who began his career as a character artist for Disney.

At the Disney Springs Kids Club on May 6th and May 27th, you can see the Polynesian luau performers with their story drumming and dance. Plus, you can catch a variety of musical acts at the Orange Node that highlight Asian American Pacific Islander music and dance.
Here’s the list of performances:
- DJ Pram featuring two Bollywood-style dancers: May 4th, May 11th, May 18th, and May 25th
- Lahjit, a Salt Lake City, Utah band that plays music from various genres: May 7th and May 8th
- The Collective, a high-energy vocal group that celebrates boy bands and K-pop (short for Korean pop music) sensations from throughout history: May 14th, May 15th, May 28,th and May 29th
- NETANE Polynesian Productions, whose performances feature authentic Polynesian dances from the Pacific islands of Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, and more: May 21st and May 22nd

At EPCOT, be sure to stop by Matsuriza in the Japan pavilion to experience the ancient form of Japanese drumming. And in Animal Kingdom, check out the Viva Gaia Street Band for some energetic moments. This month, the band will actually be doing something special by incorporating songs from Moana!

And you can’t forget about the FOOD! For a complete list of new and returning snacks you can check out during the next few weeks to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, click here.
