Netflix is considered the top dog in the streaming game, boasting the highest amount of subscribers than any other service.

However, the company has run into some issues recently. They have been losing subscribers, laying off employees, and more. Netflix announced that ads would be coming to the service soon, and as of now, the increases have hit the service!
Netflix now charges $6.99 per month for its new tier that includes ads, according to CNBC. This new tier is available as of November 3rd, 2022 in the United States.

This “Basic with ads” tier have 4-5 minutes of commercials each hour and users of the tier won’t be able to download movies or TV series.

These commercials are 15 or 30 seconds long and will play before and during content. Brands will even be able to control if ads are run on content they consider inappropriate for them.

Netflix is hopping on the ad train after other streaming services, like Hulu, have done the same. Even Disney+ will be getting ads soon, which you can learn more about here.

The edge Netflix now has is that its ad-supported tier is less expensive than major competitors. Disney+’s ad tier will be $7.99 and launch in December, and HBO Max’s tier with ads is $9.99 per month.

The other tiers of Netflix include basic at $9.99, which doesn’t have ads but has less features than the other higher tiers, standard without ads for $15.49, and premium without ads for $19.99.

Netflix’s ad tier will become available in Mexico and Canada on November 1st, and then Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the U.K., and the United States on November 3rd. Spain will get the ad tier on November 10th.
