We’ve seen some crazy weather hit Disney World — from thunderstorms to even hurricanes,  Florida has no shortage of meteorological mood swings.

Nothing can ruin a vacation faster than bad weather — and we recently found out that Florida can add another title to its resumé alongside the moniker of “The Sunshine State”.

According to Spectrum News Orlando, Florida has regained its title as the lightning capital of the United States.

Florida previously held the title in 2019, but in 2020, Oklahoma surpassed the “Sunshine State” as the lightning capital. This designation is measured by strikes per square mile, according to the article.

The state averaged 223 lightning strikes per square mile throughout the course of the year. The area with the highest amount of strikes was Geneve, FL — just outside of Disney World in Orlando.

Unfortunately, Disney Can’t Control the Weather!

We much prefer Florida being the Sunshine State — that means more sunny park days! Keep your eyes peeled for more of our weather updates!
