A lot has changed over the past two years when it comes to health and safety measures at theme parks across the United States.

We’ve seen some parks require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test in compliance with county ordinances, others (like Disney World) have shifted to requiring face masks when indoors only, and others have moved to recommend masks rather than mandate them. And, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Orange County, FL, Universal Orlando is shifting their face mask policy once again.
According to Universal Orlando’s website, face coverings will be required at all public indoor locations within Universal Orlando Resort for both guests and team members regardless of vaccination status beginning Friday, December 24th, 2021. This includes restaurants, shops, and indoor hotel public areas.

Additionally, face masks must also be worn at all attractions from the moment guests enter the queue to when they exit the experience.

The face mask requirements for Team Members have also expanded, with Team Members who are not fully vaccinated required to wear masks when onstage outdoors, and both indoors and outdoors backstage. Team Members who are vaccinated can remove their face mask when onstage outdoors or backstage outdoors, though they will still be required at all indoor locations.
Previously, Team Members who were fully vaccinated did not need to wear a face mask in any location while on the job.

These changes come in response to growing concerns over the Omicron COVID-19 variant and the CDC’s recent reclassification of Orange County, FL into the “High” category of COVID-19 community transmission. Under the “High” category, the CDC states that everyone should wear a mask in public, indoor settings so this change in policy aligns with these recommendations.

This marks the first change in face mask policies for guests at Universal Orlando since May 2021. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for updates and bring you a first look at how the policy is being implemented this week, so be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for the latest!
