Even though the Halloween season has ended, that doesn’t mean we have to stop talking about one of the most popular fall movies!
Hocus Pocus has been a Halloween classic ever since it was first released in the 90s, and for many fans, it’s a must-watch every year. (It’s so popular that it inspires a TON of merchandise for the fall season!) And today, we’ve got some big news from Disney about the movie’s long-awaited sequel.
According to Disney, Hocus Pocus 2 is currently under production in Rhode Island with director Anne Fletcher (Dumplin,’ The Proposal). The new movie will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in the fall of 2022.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will be reprising their roles as Winifred, Sarah, and Mary, the Sanderson sisters, for the sequel. Doug Jones will be back for the second film as well, and Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, and Belissa Escobedo will be joining the cast as three young women in present-day Salem who “incite” the witches.
Disney notes that “It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters who were executed for practicing witchcraft, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to figure out how to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before midnight on All Hallow’s Eve.”
