An iconic toy is getting a total rebrand.

Mr. Potato Head is a classic — he’s featured in the Toy Story franchise and has been a children’s staple for decades. But in a presentation today, Hasbro announced that he’ll no longer be called Mr. Potato Head. The toy will become non-gendered, corresponding with a new product line arriving this fall.
According to People, the new line will consist of a non-gendered Potato Head family with 2 large bodies, 1 small body, and various accessories. Kimberly Boyd, a Hasbro senior vice president, stated, “The way the brand currently exists — with the ‘Mr.’ and ‘Mrs.’ — is limiting when it comes to both gender identity and family structure.” Hasbro hopes that this rebranding will allow kids to “represent their own experiences.”

The brand will have a whimsical color palette and more inclusive messaging. It will also drop the “Mr.” from the name and logo. Hasbro hopes that these changes will “promote gender equality and inclusion.”

The “Create Your Own Potato Head Family” line will arrive this fall. Stay tuned to AllEars for more news and updates.
