From Sean Connery to Chadwick Boseman, family and fans have honored the legacies left behind by these incredible actors. And, today, another important person has “joined the Force” during his passing.

According to CNN, British actor David Prowse has passed away at the age of 85. Prowse was known to many fans as the person behind Darth Vader’s mask as he played the villain in all three original Star Wars films.

His management company, Bowington Management, reported that he had passed after being treated for prostate cancer in 2018 and recently had a short illness. His agent Thomas Bowington stated “Though famous for playing many monsters — for myself, and all who knew Dave and worked with him, he was a hero in our lives” before noting “May the force be with him, always!”

Although James Earl Jones is known for providing Darth Vader’s deep voice, Prowse actually wore the suit and helmet for the films from 1977 through 1983. His West Country English accent wasn’t chosen as the most suitable voice, but his acting abilities lent to the physicality of the Sith Lord.

We send our thoughts and condolences to Prowse’s family, friends, and fans during this time.
