Willow is an underrated classic! Staring Warwick Davis, the film tells the story of a young sorcerer in training named Willow on his quest to protect Elora; a baby destined to be the downfall of the wicked queen Bavmorda.

It’s been decades since we’ve visited this fantastic world, but now Ron Howard and writer Jon Kasdan have teamed up to bring the world of Willow to Disney+ in the form of a new series! And yes, Warwick Davis will be involved!

According to Collider’s interview with Ron Howard, the series will be a sequel to the original film, taking place after the events from the 1988 classic. While Howard would not confirm whether he would or would not be directing any part of the series, he emphasized his interested in returning to the world of Willow.

Willow is the latest entry in the fantasy streaming wars, with Netflix’s The Witcher having received acclaim, and Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series set to enter production soon. Will Willow be able to leverage 80s nostalgia and its more whimsical tone to secure a slice of the fantasy pie? We’ll have to wait and see!
