Artist Sweet Cecily Daniher has sued Disney, Pixar and Onward producer Kori Rae over the use of the upcoming film’s “unicorn van”.
According to a new lawsuit filed by Daniher, the “Vanicorn” was copied without permission by Pixar for use in the film Onward, under the pretense of using it as decoration for a special event.
According to Daniher’s legal team, in September 2018 Pixar reached out about renting Daniher’s famous “Vanicorn” for a special event, to which Daniher agreed. In May of 2019, Daniher caught wind of Onward. For those unfamiliar, Onward tells the tale of Ian and Barley, two elves on a quest to bring their deceased father back for one more day on Earth. The mythical tale includes a van that the brothers use, featuring a unicorn.
Daniher is suing for copyright infringement, as well as violation of the DMCA, Visual Artists Rights Act, and the California Artists Protection act. In addition, she is seeking to bar Disney from distributing, marketing, or selling advertisements and merchandise related to the film, as well as preventing them from distributing Onward itself. Finally, she wants a declaration that Disney’s related copyrights are invalid.
Disney has not made any public comments on the lawsuit.

There just one problem with her claim. That’s a Pegasus on the side of this van not a unicorn…
