The trailer left us holding our breath, and we are intrigued to see how the differences between the original and the new live-action version play out on the big screen.

According to Disney, this version of Mulan is based on the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan” instead of the lighter cartoon version we grew up with.

And though the teaser trailer has many similarities to the original film, it is evident that this film will take on a different, more serious tone.

Disney has stated that the film will follow Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, as she takes the place of her ailing father. She, disguised as Hua Jun, a man, will test her limits and harness her inner-strength. Will she bring honor? Will she prove herself to the ones she loves?

Coming to theaters in Spring 2020, the film, directed by Niki Caro features Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan, and Jet Li as the Emperor.
