LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Oct. 20, 2010) – The Harlem Globetrotters announced today a two-game Harlem Globetrotters Holiday Special Event at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World prior to the tip-off of their 2011 North American tour.
The Globetrotters’ doubleheader at Disney is Saturday, Nov. 27, two days after Thanksgiving Day, with an afternoon matinee at 2 p.m. followed by an evening game at 7 p.m.
The games mark the return of the Harlem Globetrotters to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex after a special performance this past February that was a part of the ESPN re-launch of the complex. That performance featured NFL player Chad Ochocinco, former LPGA player Annika Sorenstam, U.S. soccer player Brandi Chastain and Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of ESPN’s Mike and Mike show in the Morning playing alongside Disney characters.
Over their 84-year history the Harlem Globetrotters have played more than 25,000 games and have featured NBA players and Hall of Famers including Wilt Chamberlin, Nathaniel “Sweetwater” Clifton and Marques Haynes on their roster. The Globetrotters are renowned for popularizing many of the game’s best elements – like the fast break and slam dunk – and the Globetrotters are always exploring ways to bring new innovations to the game as they enter their 85th year of touring.
Tickets for the Harlem Globetrotters Holiday Special Event games go on sale today, one of which will air on ESPN2. Upper level tickets are $25, lower level tickets behind the baselines are available for $30, lower level tickets along the sidelines are $40, second row tickets in the lower level are $50 and courtside tickets are available for $75. Fans wishing to purchase tickets for the Disney games and other dates on the 2011 Globetrotters tour can be purchased through all Ticketmaster outlets.
