CONFIRMED: Park Hopping Rules Are Changing at Disneyland Next Week

A largely disliked Disneyland rule is about to go extinct.

Despite park hopping — the process of going between theme parks with a specialty ticket — being relatively easy at the Disneyland Resort, a controversial rule has restricted guests visiting Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure in the morning. When Disneyland reopened during the 2020 pandemic, the resort introduced park reservation and park-hopping restrictions. Though the additions were supposed to be temporary, they’ve stuck around into 2026. With that said, the park-hopping limitation is about to be lifted, and Disney fans everywhere are rejoicing!

As of June 9th, 2026, Disneyland Resort guests with Park Hopper tickets and Magic Key passes can go between the two parks any time during operational hours. Since the pandemic, this amount of freedom has NOT existed — so this change is fairly significant.

Before this change, guests with park hopping privileges had to select which park they wanted to visit first during the reservation process. They couldn’t park hop until 11 AM. You could visit any park you’d like after 11 AM, even if it wasn’t your first park on your reservation, but if you planned on showing up early in the morning, you had to stick to that initial itinerary. Now, reservations are simply a formality that covers your entire day, rather than which park you NEED to start at.

That’s right — the reservation system is sticking around. You will still need to make a park pass reservation online or through the Disneyland app, and you still need to indicate which park you plan on starting in. But as was previously mentioned, you won’t be beholden to starting there — capacity permitting.

Disney still wants to get headcounts and get an idea as to which park might be more popular on any given day, but as long as neither park is at max capacity, you’re pretty much free to go to whichever park you’d like. This kind of flexibility has been absent for morning guests for so long now, and this change has overwhelmingly been a welcome one. The reservation system is staying in place (despite lots of vocal opposition), but now it’s something we have to monitor with the return of pre-pandemic protocol.
