If you’ve ever entered a Walt Disney World park and wondered why a fingerprint scanner is part of the process, you’re not alone.

It might seem surprising to encounter that kind of tech on vacation, but rest assured, it’s not as invasive as it sounds. We’re going to talk about why Disney does it and how you can opt out if you like.
Disney uses this process, known as “Ticket Tag”, to help ensure that tickets and park passes can’t be transferred or shared between Guests. It’s a quick and secure way to keep your ticket linked to you and not just anyone else who might try to use it.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that Disney is storing your actual fingerprint or biometric data. According to planDisney, that’s simply not true. “When you scan your finger the first time you enter a park, Disney’s system takes an image of your finger, converts it into a unique, extensive numerical value, and then immediately deletes the image.” That number is used to link your ticket or MagicBand to you for the rest of your trip. So, no actual fingerprint data is ever stored, and your privacy remains protected.

If you’d prefer not to use the finger scan, Disney allows you to opt out. Just stop by Guest Relations before heading to the park entrance and let them know you’d like to bypass the scan. You’ll need to show a photo ID that matches the name on your ticket, and for children, the ID of the accompanying adult with a matching name on the account.

The Ticket Tag process is designed to streamline your entry experience while keeping things secure. When you tap in using your MagicBand, MagicBand+, Disney MagicMobile Pass, Apple Watch, or a physical ticket card.

So the next time you tap in at the gate and rest your finger on the scanner, just know it’s helping protect your magical experience. For more Disney World tips, be sure to follow AllEars.net.
