Earlier this month it was announced that Disney would be laying off 28,000 Cast Members from both Disney World and Disneyland.

The situation at Disneyland has become even more difficult, though, with new state guidelines that could keep those parks shuttered until next year.
However, Disneyland and the Workers United Local 50 Union have reached an agreement on how Disneyland lay-offs will be handled. First, lay-offs will be based on scheduling groups: those Cast Members with the longest length of continuous service will not be laid off if they can still perform their work once operations at the parks resume.

Training will also be provided for retained Cast Members within each scheduling group to perform work that will be available. Disney will notify employees being laid off no later than November 1st via email and/or mail.

The union also negotiated terms with Disneyland for limited recall rights for laid-off Cast Members. Recalled cast members will retain their seniority and pay, including pay raises. For the first 12 months, Disneyland will recall Cast Members based on seniority. Recalled Cast Members will have two weeks to return to work, but lose their rights if they decline.
For lay-offs that last longer than a year, Cast Members must contact Disney at least one time to confirm their willingness to return to work. Disneyland also agreed not to hire new employees until all qualified cast members who have been laid off are recalled and have returned to work during the extended recall period, which ends on December 31st, 2022.
As we get more information from cast members and unions about the lay-offs, we will continue to keep you updated.
