If you’re a TSA PreCheck member, you’ve probably already experienced the magic of skipping the long general security lines, keeping your shoes on, and breezing through to your gate. But there’s a new feature in the mix that’s taking that experience to the next level, and it’s coming to 65 airports this spring. We’re breaking down everything you need to know about TSA PreCheck Touchless ID and whether your home airport is on the list.

What Exactly Is TSA PreCheck Touchless ID?

Think of it as TSA PreCheck, but even more streamlined. TSA PreCheck Touchless ID uses facial comparison technology to verify your identity, meaning that a quick photo is all it takes to confirm who you are.

No more digging through your bag for your ID or fumbling with documents at the checkpoint. It’s designed to make the whole process faster and more efficient, which honestly sounds like a dream when you’re running late for a 6 AM flight.

When Is It Coming and Where?

The expansion is happening in Spring 2026, and it’s rolling out across 65 airports through five major participating airlines: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines.

The list of airport codes is pretty extensive, so there’s a solid chance your home airport is included. Some of the bigger hubs covered across the airlines include ATL, LAX, JFK, ORD, DFW, SEA, DEN, SFO, and many more.

How Do You Actually Use It?

First things first, you’ve got to be an active TSA PreCheck member with a valid passport. From there, here’s what you need to do to get set up:

Head into your airline profile and make sure your Known Traveler Number (KTN) and valid passport number are entered. Then you’ll need to select “Opt In” either through your airline profile or at check-in. Once you’ve done that, keep an eye on your mobile boarding pass because the TSA PreCheck Touchless ID indicator needs to appear on it for you to use the dedicated lane.

One really important thing to note: even if you’re fully opted in and ready to go, you still need to bring a REAL-ID-compliant physical ID with you. It’s your backup, and TSA officers can still ask to see it at any time.

Why Should You Bother Opting In?

Honestly, the benefits are pretty straightforward. It’s more convenient because you’re not scrambling for your ID at the checkpoint. It’s faster because it speeds up the already-efficient TSA PreCheck process even further. And it’s actually quite secure since it’s powered by advanced biometric technology for identity verification.

We know some people might feel a little iffy about the facial recognition piece, and that’s totally understandable. But here’s what TSA says about privacy: images captured aren’t used for law enforcement or surveillance, they aren’t shared with outside entities, and your photo, along with your personal data, gets deleted within 24 hours of your scheduled flight departure. More details are available through TSA and DHS Privacy Impact Assessments if you want to dig deeper into the specifics.

Is Your Airport on the List?

With 65 airports across five airlines in the rollout, there’s a genuinely good chance this is coming to a terminal near you this spring. It’s worth logging into your airline profile now to get your information updated so you’re ready to opt in before your next trip.
