It’s no secret that MagicBands have become an integral part of Walt Disney World vacations over the last decade+.

The bands can serve as room keys, payment methods, entry tickets, to check-in for Lightning Lanes, connect with PhotoPass, and react to select Disney theme park attractions with “lighting effects and gesture recognition.” However, a reader recently shared another feature with us on social media.
A reader who goes by Sharihunt718 recently shared a harrowing tale with us. They began, “On our most recent trip, my daughter got separated from us because she confused our stroller with someone else’s.”

According to Sharihunt718, Cast Members quickly found their daughter, who was clearly lost and scared. That’s where the band’s functionality came in, giving this potentially terrifying tale a happy ending.
“They scanned her MagicBand, were able to pull up our reservation info and get my phone number from the resort and called me to let me know she was safely at a Guest Services umbrella. My daughter was able to wait with them and they asked her about her favorite Disney movie until I got there. They even gave her a Stitch stuffy (her favorite movie) after we were reunited. I don’t know how long it would have taken to find her otherwise and they did such a good job at making it a minimally scary experience for her.”

First of all, as always, massive kudos to those Disney World Cast Members, A+ job. Secondly, however, how about that function from the MagicBand? That’s an outstanding use of the system! Our reader agreed for obvious reasons, calling it the “best money” they spent on the trip.

In addition to their numerous other uses at Walt Disney World, this story exhibits how MagicBands can also play a big part in the resort’s security apparatus. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on Disney’s operations.

I have always said to other people that WDW is the one place I know of where getting separated from your child isn’t as bad as it is elsewhere. And what do the cast members do while they wait for the parents? They engage with the child to reassure them so they don’t panic and then give the child a momento so they movies the experience positively rather than negatively. The Disney Way.
