This Could Be a GAME-CHANGER for Disney World’s EMPTY BoardWalk

Disney’s BoardWalk is one of the most beautiful areas in all of Disney World, yet it’s also one of the quietest.

BoardWalk

Between the Crescent Lake views, charming atmosphere, and proximity to EPCOT, you’d expect it to be bustling all the time. But the truth is, once the sun sets and dinner crowds clear out, the BoardWalk tends to feel a little… empty. That’s why we think one thing could totally change that — a dinner show.

We’re talking about something on the level of Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue over at Fort Wilderness, but with its own BoardWalk twist. If Disney introduced a themed dinner show — maybe a roaring ‘20s magic show or a suspenseful murder mystery — it could breathe new life into this stunning but sleepy area of the resort.

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

Let’s be honest: the BoardWalk has the potential to be one of Disney’s best nighttime destinations. It has location going for it (right between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios), it’s easy to get to by boat, Skyliner, or walking, and it has some solid restaurants like Trattoria al Forno and Flying Fish. But unless you’re staying at one of the hotels nearby, there’s often not enough happening to draw people in for the evening.

BoardWalk

Right now, you might stroll through, grab a drink, maybe listen to the occasional street performer, and then move on. It’s peaceful, sure, but it lacks the consistent energy Disney fans expect from a “night out” spot. A dinner show could completely change that vibe — making it a place people plan their evenings around, not just walk through on their way back to their resort.

BoardWalk

Just imagine it: an immersive experience set inside a vintage-style theater tucked along the water, themed to the golden age of Atlantic City or Coney Island. You’d be greeted by cast members in period costumes, maybe a live band playing jazzy tunes as you’re seated for dinner. Then the show begins — a blend of Disney-level entertainment with a clever story, maybe a little audience participation, and plenty of laughs.

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

Something like a magical vaudeville act could fit the BoardWalk’s theme perfectly. It could mix sleight-of-hand magic, physical comedy, and a touch of Disney storytelling. Think of a show that feels both nostalgic and brand new — one that combines the showmanship of Hoop-Dee-Doo with the elegance and setting of the BoardWalk.

AbracadaBar

Or, go in a totally different direction: a murder mystery dinner show. Guests could become part of the story, solving clues between courses as they dine on themed dishes. The BoardWalk already feels like it has a little bit of old-time mystery built into its atmosphere, especially at night when the lights glow across the water. A whodunit experience could easily become one of the hardest reservations to snag on property.

AbracadaBar

The reason this could be such a game-changer is that the BoardWalk doesn’t need another restaurant or lounge — it needs an experience. Right now, most guests who aren’t staying nearby rarely go out of their way to visit. But add a must-see show to the mix? Suddenly, people are hopping on the Skyliner or making post-EPCOT plans that end with a late-night performance. It would make the area a destination again, not just a scenic detour.

BoardWalk

The success of Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue proves there’s a demand for this kind of experience. That show has been around for decades and is still one of the most beloved dinner events in all of Disney World. People make entire evenings out of it, and it gives them a reason to visit a part of property they might not otherwise see. The BoardWalk deserves the same chance.

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

Even from Disney’s perspective, it’s an opportunity to balance out guest flow. EPCOT’s nearby resorts already draw heavy crowds during festivals, but the BoardWalk itself often empties out afterward. A nighttime show would keep guests in the area longer, boosting business for the shops, restaurants, and snack stands.

BoardWalk

And for guests? It’s another reason to fall in love with Disney World at night. Picture walking along the water after the show, grabbing ice cream, and watching the Friendship Boats glide by. It would turn an already beautiful location into something truly memorable.

The truth is, the BoardWalk doesn’t need a total overhaul — it just needs a spark. A dinner show could be that spark. It could be the thing that finally brings the energy back, that makes people say, “We have to go there this trip.” So, Disney, if you’re listening, we’re ready. Give us a little mystery, a little magic, and a reason to make the BoardWalk our go-to night out again. Until then, for more Disney news and updates, make sure to stay tuned to AllEars.

  1. Thoughtful idea. I’ve taken my grandson for ice cream a few times in the last month and was surprised no magic shows or juggling acts anymore. We did get a great couple of corn dogs and a huge bowl of ice cream from the ice cream shop for only $7 and fed 3 of us!

  2. Excellent idea to have a venue at the Boardwalk. We miss the Luau at Polynesian and the third one, I’m drawing a blank, from long ago.

  3. The Boardwalk is a ghost town at night – why they closed the River restaurant – I don’t understand. It has substantially reduced the foot traffic in the area.
