Walt Disney World Cast Members are the engine that keeps the resort’s trademark magic running and meeting the needs of thousands of guests each and every day.

However, while their efforts may sometimes appear Herculean, they are – like all of us – only human, and occasionally even the “Most Magical Place on Earth” can be pretty stressful. We have several cast members on our AllEars team, and they report that these are some of the issues Cast Members secretly hate.
1. Guests who think the rules don’t apply to them. For example, parents trying to convince Cast Members to let their too-short kid ride Space Mountain — sorry, folks, those rules exist for a reason!
2. Speaking of rules, Cast Members have seen it ALL when it comes to stroller parking. If a stroller is blocking an entrance, chances are, a Cast Member had to move it to keep traffic flowing. They’re not trying to lose your stroller — just making sure nobody trips over it!

3. And please, don’t snap fingers, yell, or treat Cast Members like they don’t matter. That’s never the Disney way! If you want the best experience, the golden rule applies: Treat others with kindness, and you might get extra magic in return!
4. Remember that Disney runs all day, meaning Cast Members often start their shifts before dawn or leave well after midnight. Some work overnight to prep the parks before guests even arrive!
5. Park shifts can be long, stretching anywhere from 8 to 12 hours, sometimes more during peak seasons. And working weekends and holidays? Yep, that’s just part of the job. You might be celebrating Christmas or New Year’s Eve at home, but Cast Members are running the magic for everyone else

6. Now, let’s talk pay. Many frontline Cast Members – especially in entry-level roles — start at hourly wages that don’t always match the cost of living near Disney. That’s why a lot of Cast Members take on multiple jobs or share housing with other Cast Members to afford life in Orlando. It’s all about passion for the magic, but it’s not always financially easy.
7. And speaking of costs, some Cast Members commute long distances because rent near Disney parks is so expensive. So, after a full day of working, some still have to drive an hour or more just to get home
8. Cast Members LOVE making magic, but some guests expect a personal fairy godmother to grant wishes left and right. Yes, sometimes Cast Members sprinkle pixie dust, like handing out free stickers or celebrating a special occasion, but that doesn’t mean every guest gets a surprise just because they ask for it.

9. And sorry, but saying “It’s my birthday!” won’t guarantee a free cupcake or parade-worthy treatment. Cast Members do their best, but expecting magic on command can sometimes take the fun out of the real spontaneous moments!
10. Disney is all about immersion, but sometimes guests break the illusion in ways that Cast Members wish they wouldn’t. Ever heard someone say “That’s just a guy in a suit!” in earshot of a wide-eyed child meeting Mickey for the first time? Ouch. Cast Members work hard to keep the magic alive, so dropping truth bombs like that right in front of little ones can spoil the experience.
11. When guests try to tell jokes on Jungle Cruise or loudly recite the ride spiel on the Haunted Mansion.

12. Speaking of the Haunted Mansion, taking flash pictures on dark rides is the WORST!
13. And then there are guests who openly complain about pricing, ride queues, or why they didn’t get everything they wanted. Look, Disney days aren’t cheap, but Cast Members aren’t in charge of park policies! They just want guests to focus on the fun, not nitpick their way through the day
14. Guests yelling at the CM working the register about the prices. They didn’t set the prices, and have no control over them.

15. Here are just a few things that Cast Members actually DON’T have control over:
- Food prices
- Ticket prices
- Hotel prices
- Crowd levels
- The weather
- Disney getting rid of your favorite ride
16. Working in the heat
17. The Utilidors smelled.

18. Those red matching shirts from the Orlando-area Walmarts – walking red flag!
19. Shirts complaining about the price of a Disney vacation.
20. Being blocked out of the parks for new stuff.
21. Waiting for the bus at west clock (CMs know)
22. Other Cast Members who are acting inappropriately on stage.
23. Someone works at the call center when guests call when they are stuck on the rides.
24. Thinking that a CM is a babysitter: PLEASE DON’T LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN BEHIND.
25. When Annual Passholders don’t want to show their ID at the parking tolls and throw a fit when asked.

26. Pin trading without talking to the CM first.
27. Guests who attempt to skip the line or cut others.
28. Finally, in general, guests who don’t listen to Cast Members!

Despite the challenges, Cast Members create incredible experiences every day. So next time you visit, take a moment to appreciate the hard work! Give them a smile, a kind word, or—better yet—a thank you! Stay tuned to AllEars for more from Disney World Cast Members!
