“I Had My Time” — ‘Star Wars’ Actor Says He’s Done with the Franchise

You probably won’t be seeing Luke Skywalker in any Star Wars productions anytime soon.

At least, don’t expect to see Mark Hamill as Skywalker. The actor, who played Luke Skywalker in the franchise, recently shared with ComicBook that he doesn’t have any interest in moving forward with the character.

In the ComicBook interview, Hamill said, “I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called ‘Star Wars’ ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made.’” He continued, “We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”

Hamill’s last major appearance as Luke Skywalker was as a force ghost in Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, but he was also briefly seen in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

He joked that he “disappeared in [‘The Last Jedi’], I left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked force ghost.”

The first Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, went on to become one of the most iconic films in history after its 1977 release, which inspired a massive franchise still beloved to this day. There have been 12 total Star Wars films and countless television shows set in the universe.

The next films to be released in the franchise will be The Mandalorian and Grogu, starring Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, and Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling.

While we’re sad to hear that there likely won’t be any more Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker (for now), we’re excited about what the future of this world holds!
