According to ABC News, JetBlue and United Airlines have announced a partnership allowing customers to use bonus miles and loyalty benefits across both airlines. Additionally, customers can book flights from both carriers on both sites.

This will provide customers with additional flight options and the ability to utilize their benefits and miles for either airline. The partnership is expected to begin in the fall, but it is still pending approval from regulators. Let’s take a look at what we know about this partnership so far.
United and JetBlue are both large brands within the airline industry. Data from the U.S. Department of Transportation shows that United controls about 16% of the U.S. airline market, and JetBlue controls about 4%. This new partnership, called “Blue Sky,” will provide more options for customers of both airlines.

United customers will have more options for flights in the Northeast, especially Boston and New York, and JetBlue customers will have access to hundreds of additional domestic and international flights. Both airlines will offer flights for both United and JetBlue on their websites, however each airline will still be setting the pricing for its own flights.

In addition to being able to book airlines with either airline through both websites, customers of JetBlue and United will be able to utilize their bonus miles and loyalty benefits on both airlines. Joanna Geraghty, JetBlue’s CEO, said in a statement that, “This collaboration with United is a bold step forward for the industry – one that brings together two customer-focused airlines to deliver more choices for travelers and value across our networks.”

The partnership still needs to receive approval from regulators, but if that approval is received, United and JetBlue are hoping to debut the loyalty offerings and bonus-mile networks as soon as this fall.

We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more about this partnership between United Airlines and JetBlue. United Airlines also recently unveiled the United Elevated interior for its brand-new Boeing 787-9 airplanes. There will be new suites called “United Polaris Studio Suites” and Standard United Polaris seats are also getting new upgrades. Plus, there will also be improvements from the nose all the way to the tail. With this new partnership, JetBlue customers will be able to book these flights through JetBlue’s website, and use bonus miles and loyalty benefits.
