I like to think I’m a pretty observant person. I know to be wary of suspicious text messages and not to click on any mysterious links from strangers. But what if you get an odd text while you’re at Epic Universe? I mean, I know scams are pretty sophisticated these days, but this really caught me off guard.

These days, new scams seem to be popping up left and right. Who else out there has recently gotten one (or several) of those texts about an unpaid toll road fee?? With all the text scams floating around, our radar was SERIOUSLY pinging when we got a suspicious message from Universal.
Earlier this week, we were at Epic Universe, checking out a preview of the new park before its official grand opening on May 22nd. We had a dining reservation booked at Atlantic Restaurant in the Celestial Park area of the park for later in the day.
FULL REVIEW: We Tried the NEW Atlantic Restaurant in Celestial Park at Epic Universe
But even though we had a reservation scheduled, we were instantly suspicious when we got this strange text asking us to confirm the reservation.

There are a few reasons this pinged our radar as odd. First, it didn’t come off as a text having to do with Universal. Plus, we broke the number one rule about what to do after getting a suspicious text and clicked on the link, which took us to a seriously sketchy-looking site prompting us to click a link to confirm the booking.

With the evidence all stacked up – unexpected text we haven’t received from Universal before, link to a sketchy website, text scams all over the news – we were sure that we must be getting scammed. But, imagine our shock when we confirmed with an Epic Universe Team Member that this was actually a legitimate confirmation text.

According to the Team Member, Universal is using a third-party system to confirm dining reservations, which is why the website isn’t the official Universal one. So, if you make a dining reservation at Epic Universe and get a text asking you to confirm or cancel your booking, it’s probably legit. But, of course, make sure to be cautious and ask a Team Member if you’re ever in doubt!

We’ll continue to report back with more of our experiences from the Epic Universe previews, so stay tuned to AllEars for all the info you need to know for your first visit!
