A brand-new film about one of Disney’s most iconic figures just had its world premiere, and we were there to witness it on the big screen!

Bob Gurr is one of the most legendary names in the history of Disney Imagineering. He began working with the Imagineering team — then known as WED Enterprises — during the initial construction of Disneyland, with his first major contribution being the design of the Autopia cars. Over the next several decades, Gurr designed some of Disney’s most iconic ride vehicles, including the Main Street Vehicles, the Disneyland Monorail, Matterhorn Bobsleds, the Submarine Voyage’s titular craft, the fleet of vehicles used for the 1964 World’s Fair attractions, and the Haunted Mansion’s Doombuggies. Gurr, who was named a Disney Legend in 2004, also did notable work outside the company, including props for the Jackson Five’s Victory Tour, the 1984 Olympics, the King Kong animatronic for Universal Studios, and the sinking pirate ship at Las Vegas’s Treasure Island Hotel & Casino.
A new documentary film, Bob Gurr: Living by Design, “offers an intimate portrait of a visionary whose creations have shaped theme park history and himself.” On April 26th, we attended the film’s premiere at the Alex Theater in Glendale, California. There was even a red carpet…

…which the icon himself walked.

One of Bob’s most iconic ride vehicles was on the red carpet as well…

…including some background information on the evolution of the Autopia vehicles.

Once inside, there was memorabilia and collectibles available, many signed by Bob Gurr himself.

You could pick up prints of attraction posters and concept art…

…and even a replica of Gurr’s Disney Legend plaque.

Once inside the theater, numerous presentations were made…

… and Gurr himself spoke at the showing of his film.

We LOVED attending the premiere of the brand new documentary celebrating the life and career of legendary Imagineer Bob Gurr.
