3 Things I Wish I Knew Before Paying $12 for a Poncho in Disney World

It’s not often that I personally, or we on the site as a whole, tell you that something is 100% not worth it entirely.

Rainy Day in Magic Kingdom

We know that what’s not a great fit for one person, may be a fantastic fit for another, so it’s very rare we’ll say that something is totally not worth it for anyone and everyone. However, now is one of those times! Here’s the thing friends — Disney World ponchos are NEVER the way to go, and I wish I’d known these things before I put one on for the first (and only) time.

They’re 100% Not Worth That Price Tag

Disney World Ponchos average about $12 each for adults — come on, I could get two of my favorite Disney World snacks for that price, and the worst part is, you can’t even reuse them!

Disney ponchos aren’t ideal

I’ve experienced firsthand the sadness of paying an arm and a leg for a Disney World poncho and then it’s ruined by the end of the day. They rip easily, making you susceptible to the rain you’re trying to avoid, and unless you want to duct tape it shut again (which, you can do, no one’s stopping you), it’s basically useless.

They’re An OVEN

Not to mention that because they’re made out of cheap material, if it’s even the slightest big muggy or humid outside (and let’s be honest, it’s Florida, of course it’s going to be), you’re going to feel like you’re baking in an oven.

Look at all those ponchos

And there’s no way around this either other than just taking the poncho off, which defeats the entire purpose of buying it in the first place. When I had mine on, I felt literally disgusting and kinda like I couldn’t breathe — my skin felt like it was suffocating. 0/10, do not recommend.

They’re Not Cute

Now listen, I’m all for usability and practicality over fashion (for the most part), but I’ll be honest here — I also just hate the look of Disney World ponchos.

I know they come in different colors, but I despise the material, they LOOK cheap, and again, I could be wearing my favorite park outfit, and it would make me feel gross. Now that I know there’s a WAY better alternative I use all the time, I’ll never look back.

Frogg Toggs Poncho

Instead, Emma put me on to the magic of the Frogg Togg Poncho and Y’ALL, when I say these are a game changer, I MEAN IT! With my whole chest, I would never lie to you about this. For one, it’s only a few dollars more than a Disney World poncho, but it’s also MUCH better material that doesn’t rip easily at all.

Me in my beloved FROGG TOGG Poncho

That oven feeling also goes away for the most part, because the material is SO lightweight. But it’s effective, I’ll tell you that — Emma and I both agree that raindrops literally fall OFF of us. The best part? It comes with a bag you can put it back in so you don’t have to worry about anything else in your bag getting wet!

Grab it right here!

Even if the FROGG TOGG Poncho isn’t for you, I beg you — find a poncho or umbrella that’s great quality, doesn’t break the bank, and works well for you and grab it BEFORE your trip so you don’t waste money you don’t need to on Disney ponchos.

Emma loves her Frogg Toggs Poncho!

  1. Frogg Toggs FTW! We bought them when we learned the week of Jan 20 would be RAINY, and they were a LIFESAVER! We stayed dry and comfy and had FABULOUS time at the parks!
