We talk a lot about cheap flights and our favorite ways to help you save money on your favorite airlines, and we’ve been watching the crowds ebb and flow with the changing of the seasons. If you’re planning on traveling by plane this coming holiday season, whether home, to Disney World, or elsewhere on vacation, we’ve researched when is the BEST time to book those flights for Christmas!

Traveling during the holidays can be an exciting time of the year — it can also be one of the busiest and hardest hits to your wallet! Airline prices and demand seem to soar towards the later months of the year with Orlando coming in as the #2 spot of destinations for Christmas.

So, it stands to reason that many of these airlines will raise the prices of these flights during a time that sees such a high demand for air travel. If you’re not careful about when you plan to travel and prepare in advance it’s a mistake that could consume a huge portion of your travel budget very easily.

According to travel trends on Google, the best time to book flights is weeks in advance. At present, Google suggests that the further you plan the better off you’ll be price-wise. According to the trends noted in their article, domestic flights (within the U.S.) were the cheapest around 58 days prior to departure. The lower range to book within is projected between 36 to 72 days out from travel.

This means that if you’re looking for the absolute lowest prices you’ll see to travel by air this Christmas, the second half of October is when you need to be booking! Which is NOW!

However, if you plan to travel by plane internationally, the lowest prices for these flights have been around 101 days before departure, with the historical low price range between anytime 50 days or more before takeoff.

While you might not see a dip in prices before that 50 day range prior to travel, you’ll likely see a higher price for international travel from the U.S. after that window has come and gone. If you wait to book closer to your departure date for these kinds of travels, you may not doing yourself any favors.
