Why Epic Universe Actually HELPS Disney World

There’s been a lot of talk recently about the competition between Disney World and Universal Orlando.

Universal Orlando has released a ton of news about their new park, Epic Universe, opening up in 2025. It’s sparked lots of talk about whether Disney World will follow suit with an announcement of another park. And lots of talk about the competition between the two theme park companies. However, we’re here to tell you the opening of Epic Universe will HELP the Disney company.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, at least one expert is predicting that Epic Universe will prompt Disney to open up a 5th park, and industry observers have said the gap between Universal Orlando and Disney World is thinning. So isn’t this competition bad for both companies?

The answer is actually a resounding NO! Martin Lewison, an associate professor of business management at Farmingdale State College in New York said, “But it’s not necessarily a bad thing because there is research that shows that the concentration of all these parks in one place helps all of them.”

That’s right — even if Disney doesn’t open up a 5th park, or if it doesn’t open before Epic Universe, the opening of Universal’s new park will still bring tourists to Orlando. And while people are visiting Epic Universe, they may just decide to stop by Disney World as well!

It helps, too, that Epic Universe is building a total of three new hotels (one inside the park, two right outside of it), and since Universal and Disney World aren’t too far away from each other, families could choose to stay at Epic Universe’s new hotels and STILL head to visit Disney World.
