NEWS: More Layoffs To Impact The Walt Disney Company in March

Throughout the past year, The Walt Disney Company has implemented thousands of job layoffs as part of a company-wide restructuring.

The restructuring is reported by Disney to shift focus and finances to better improve the streaming sector of the company — something CEO Bob Iger has said is his number one priority. This shift in focus aims to generate revenue from Disney+ for the first time post-pandemic, as well as make Disney’s ESPN+ the preeminent sports streaming platform. Throughout 2023, we saw layoffs take place mostly within the Entertainment sector of the company, and now, it seems that 2024 could be the merchandising sector’s turn.

According to Scott Gustin on X (formerly Twitter), the layoffs will soon impact shopDisney. 115 employees will be laid off starting March 24th.

Gustin tells us that the impacted roles are all remote guest services roles, most of which are part-time.

The reason for the layoffs is that Disney is restructuring guest services, too, and is transitioning guest services to a third-party company with folks located across the globe and time zones.

Based on the comments, a lot of folks aren’t too happy about this change, but having more resources in other time zones could help customers get the help they need much faster. We’ll just have to wait and see if there’s a difference in service once the changes are implemented!
