In the 1980s Gambon became a household name when he starred in the television mini-series “The Singing Detective.” However, he is possibly best known for his role as Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film franchise. Following the death of Richard Harris, who played Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies, Gambon took over the role and was cast in six of the eight films.
