The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) is the Board replaced Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District. The new Board of Supervisors was appointed by Governor DeSantis, who has already made several changes in the District. You may also recognize this Board as the group that is suing The Walt Disney CompanyWe’ve been following both the lawsuit and the subsequent board meetings, so what’s the news?

Governor DeSantis requested to dismiss the lawsuit created by Disney in June 2023, and now Disney has responded to this request.

Most notably, Disney revealed when they want the court date to be for the lawsuit. Deadline reported that Disney is calling for a July 15th court date which is the first day of the Republican National Convention. DeSantis, however, has been pushing for a date after the 2024 Presidential Election.

Diving deeper into Disney’s response, it says, “This case presents the fundamental question of whether the Governor and the State can escape accountability for their open defiance of our Nation’s most cherished liberties.”

The response continued saying, “The Governor seeks to evade responsibility for his actions on a narrower ground, asserting that a governor cannot be held officially liable for implementing, administering, and enforcing state laws that punish residents for political statements violating a state-prescribed speech code.”
